Germany hosts vocational orientation events for skilled trades
Various vocational orientation events in Germany are targeting students to promote careers in the skilled trades. In Oldenburg, the second Campus Handwerk event attracted 1,600 students, a 15% increase from the previous year. The event featured over 50 interactive activities across six thematic areas: construction, technology, mobility, design, gastronomy, and health. Organizers utilized a new web application to streamline coordination between schools and exhibitors.
In Gräfenhainichen, the Paul-Gerhardt-Gymnasium hosted a career event titled ‘Career in Craft with Abitur’ to demonstrate professional paths for students with high school diplomas. Organized by the Handwerkskammer Halle and local district authorities, the event aimed to show that academic qualifications can lead to specialized training and leadership roles within the trades rather than exclusively to university studies. Regional companies presented various sectors, including automotive, electrical, carpentry, and dental technology, to address the ongoing demand for skilled labor.
