Germany identified as second most frequent global ransomware target

Germany has become the second most frequent target for ransomware globally, according to a recent threat report. Data indicates that nearly two-thirds of all exploits in the second quarter of 2026 required no user interaction, signaling a shift toward more automated and stealthy attack methods.

The rapid increase in exploited vulnerabilities is outpacing traditional patch cycles. Reports show that vulnerability notifications classified as “high” or “critical” have doubled year-over-year, reaching 8,539. This acceleration is being driven by artificial intelligence, which helps attackers identify and exploit weaknesses more quickly.

Security experts warn that relying solely on static severity scores and fixed patching schedules is no longer sufficient. Christiaan Beek, Vice President at Rapid7 Labs, noted that the time gap between a vulnerability being disclosed and its active exploitation is shrinking, making it difficult for security teams to keep up using traditional methods.
