Germany identifies five sites for new military service training
The German Federal Ministry of Defence has identified five specific locations to be used for the implementation of the new military service. These sites are intended to provide the necessary training capacity for soldiers.
The designated locations include the former Kurpfalz-Kaserne in Speyer, the former Unteroffizier-Krüger-Kaserne in Kusel, the former Graf-Stauffenberg-Kaserne in Sigmaringen, the former Kanaal-van-Wessem-Kaserne in Soest, and the former Ray Barracks in Friedberg, which includes the former US training area in Ockstadt.
In Speyer, Kusel, and Sigmaringen, discussions with stakeholders have already taken place to determine future usage. For the sites in Soest and Friedberg, such discussions are still pending. The ministry intends to formalize these plans through Letters of Intent and will initiate land acquisition procedures to return these properties to military use and federal ownership. The ministry noted that these steps do not yet constitute a final stationing decision.
