Germany implements anti-sabotage shield following drone attack

Germany is implementing a comprehensive anti-sabotage shield following a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport involving explosives targeting Ukrainian transport aircraft. The security package includes the creation of a digital sensor network known as ‘Cyberdome’ and the deployment of specialized anti-drone units in major cities such as Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg. Additionally, the government is expanding the use of artificial intelligence for surveillance and granting private companies authority to defend against unauthorized drones.

In response to the incident, which the German government attributed to Moscow, Berlin has closed the Russian consulate general in Bonn and a Russian cultural center in Berlin. German officials have also increased border controls for Russian citizens.

Parallel to these security measures, researchers at the Lodz University of Technology in Poland have developed a passive acoustic drone detection system. This technology identifies and localizes drones by analyzing the specific sounds emitted by their engines and propellers. The system is designed to be cost-effective, utilizing European components, and can be expanded with thermal imaging or additional microphones. It has garnered interest from both civilian and military entities in Poland and Ukraine.
