Germany implements heat protection and resilience initiatives

Various regional initiatives in Germany are addressing climate resilience, economic support, and public safety. In Munich, political factions are calling for expanded training for ‘heat guides’ to assist seniors and vulnerable residents during extreme heat events, modeling the program after successful neighborhood assistance projects.

In Hessen, the state government has launched several targeted programs. The Ministry of the Environment is introducing the ‘Heat Help for Hessen’ initiative, allocating approximately 10 million euros over three years to fund mobile and stationary air conditioning units for daycare centers and nursing homes. Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs has commenced ‘Resilience Week’ to raise public awareness regarding crisis prevention, emergency supplies, and protection against threats such as cyberattacks and sabotage.

To support the rural economy, Hessen is also offering non-repayable subsidies of up to 30,000 euros for small businesses in the gastronomy and hotel sectors. These funds are intended for structural investments, renovations, and modernizing electronic systems to prevent the closure of village inns and guest houses.
