Germany implements intergenerational care and living models

Intergenerational living and care models are gaining attention in Germany as ways to combat loneliness and improve well-being for both children and seniors.

In Blankenburg, a multi-generational house combines a daycare center with a nursing home. The model, which provides 50 nursing care places and accommodates approximately 40 children daily, was established to address low enrollment in the daycare and the need for modern nursing facilities. Facility manager Doreen Irrgang notes that social contact is essential for healthy aging.

In Kassel, the Heilhaus multi-generational hospice is celebrating its 10th anniversary. As Germany’s only multi-generational hospice, it offers various commemorative events, including professional symposiums and spiritual ceremonies, to facilitate intergenerational hospice work and community remembrance.
