Germany implements youth civic engagement programs

Educational initiatives in Germany are focusing on practical democratic engagement for youth through various regional programs.

In Lower Saxony, students from the Max-Planck-Gymnasium Göttingen visited the Niedersächsischer Landtag in Hannover. During the visit, students observed a government statement by Ministerpräsident Olaf Lies regarding the transformation of Volkswagen and the subsequent parliamentary debate. The program aimed to move political education beyond textbooks by allowing students to experience legislative processes and engage in direct discussions with regional representatives.

In St. Wendel, Saarland, approximately 130 students participated in a Children's Democracy Day organized by the MutRaum Demokratie project. The event utilized interactive stations and workshops to allow children to discuss their concerns, fears, and ideas regarding justice and decision-making. This initiative is part of a broader series of workshops including anti-discrimination training and empowerment sessions designed to foster civic participation among young people.
