Germany increases surveillance on Russian Embassy in Berlin

German intelligence has increased surveillance on the Russian Embassy in Berlin. Reports indicate heightened activities, including continuous helicopter flights over the embassy compound and intelligence service minibuses parked near the premises for several days. These measures are reportedly intended to increase pressure on Russian diplomatic representatives.

In addition to physical surveillance, German authorities plan to tighten visa inspections for Russian businesspeople and their family members. Upon entering the country, these individuals may face “disturbing questions” from border officials regarding their reasons for travel and activities within Germany.

Amidst these tensions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul met in New York on Saturday. This marks the first meeting between the two ministers since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022. Their discussions covered the conflict in Ukraine, bilateral relations, and the security of grain exports via the Black Sea.
