Germany launches week-long Speedweek traffic crackdown, Aug 3‑9
From 3 to 9 August 2026 Germany will carry out a coordinated “Speedweek” traffic enforcement campaign, organised by the Europe‑wide Roadpol network. Thirteen German states – all except Bavaria, Saarland and Saxony – will take part, deploying both stationary and mobile speed cameras. Unlike the spring blitz‑marathon, there is no single focus day; checks are spread evenly across the week.
Police will target accident‑prone locations such as highways, federal roads, school zones, kindergartens, construction sites, nursing homes and hospitals. The aim, as stated by police and interior ministries, is to lower the number of severe road‑traffic accidents; in 2025 more than 2 800 people died on German roads, including 62 fatalities. Speed violations exceeding 26 km/h can lead to fines, penalty points and a driving ban. Local reports from Bremen, Niedersachsen, Sachsen‑Anhalt, Rheinland‑Pfalz, the Märkischer Kreis and the Osnabrück police district confirm intensified checks throughout the region.
