Germany investigates Berlin substation fire amid sabotage concerns

German authorities are investigating a fire at an electrical substation in Berlin's Mitte district, which occurred early Monday morning. The blaze affected a construction site and part of the substation, though no power outages have been reported. Police are working with grid operators to determine if the incident was a technical failure or a criminal act of sabotage.

This incident follows a series of recent attacks and attempted sabotage against Germany's power grid. Previous incidents have been reported in North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, and Saxony. In Saxony, investigators discovered a total of 21 explosive devices near high-voltage lines, all of which were neutralized.

Law enforcement is currently searching for a 48-year-old man, identified as Daniel V., described by authorities as a climate extremist. He is suspected of involvement in these attacks and has reportedly sent letters claiming responsibility to the media. Authorities remain on high alert as investigations into the various infrastructure breaches continue.
