Germany investigates suspected Russian-Serbian drone attack plot

German investigators are examining potential links between two individuals arrested in Serbia and a planned drone attack involving explosives at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The suspects, Danilo B. and Slobodan Dj., were apprehended near the Hungarian border and remain in custody.

Authorities suspect the men may have acted as agents for Russia, aiming to deploy explosives in Germany. The investigation follows an incident on August 4, where a drone equipped with explosive devices was discovered near Ukrainian cargo planes at the Leipzig airport.

Evidence, including DNA traces found on drone antenna components, has linked the investigation to a previous fire at a DHL logistics center in Leipzig in July 2024. Investigators are also looking into connections between the Serbian detainees and Oleg L., an individual suspected of having ties to Russian military intelligence (GRU).
