Germany Issues Road Safety Guidelines for Football Fans Celebrating on Streets

German traffic safety organisations – ADAC, the Automobile Club Verkehr (ACV) and TÜV Thüringen – have released five key recommendations for football fans who travel in cars to celebrate victories on public roads. They remind drivers that regular traffic laws still apply, prohibiting illegal maneuvers, noise, unnecessary emissions and blocking emergency vehicles. All passengers must be seated with seatbelts, and handheld device use while driving can result in a €100 fine and a point on the licence.

The guidelines also limit vehicle decorations to items that do not obstruct the driver’s view or the vehicle’s registration plate, and advise removing flags or large banners before highway travel. Fans are warned against streaming matches while driving, as even brief glances can cause dangerous blind‑spot incidents. Finally, the usual blood‑alcohol limits remain in force – 0.5 ‰ for drivers and a zero‑tolerance rule for learner drivers – with penalties applied for any impairment.

These measures aim to keep celebrations safe while preserving public order during major football events.
