Germany IT security market projected to exceed 15 billion euros by 2027

The German IT security market is experiencing significant double-digit growth. According to data from the IDC Worldwide Security Spending Guide presented by the digital association Bitkom, expenditures in 2026 are expected to rise by 11.7 percent, reaching 14.3 billion euros.

Projections for 2027 suggest continued expansion, with a forecasted 10.7 percent increase bringing the market to 15.8 billion euros. Software remains the largest sector, accounting for approximately 55 percent of the market. Other segments include services and hardware, such as firewalls.

Despite this growth, Bitkom notes that IT security spending currently accounts for 18 percent of total IT budgets, which remains below the 20 percent benchmark recommended by Bitkom and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). This investment comes amid high economic risks; a Bitkom study titled ‘Wirtschaftsschutz 2026’ estimates that data theft, espionage, and sabotage cause at least 211 billion euros in annual damages to the German economy, with cyberattacks accounting for 76 percent of those losses.
