Interest in landline telephones in Germany continues to decline, according to a survey by the comparison portal Verivox. Only 61 percent of respondents reported using a traditional telephone at home, representing a 10 percentage point drop compared to 2025.

The survey, conducted by market research firm Innofact among 1,000 people aged 18 to 79, highlights a significant generational divide. While 89 percent of those aged 70 to 79 still use landlines, only 42 percent of the 18- to 29-year-old demographic does so. Furthermore, 39 percent of all respondents stated they no longer use a stationary telephone connection at all.

Telecommunications expert Jörg Schamberg attributes this trend to the rise of mobile phone flat rates and large data volumes, which allow users to conduct audio and video calls via smartphone chat services without extra costs. Improved mobile network stability has also contributed to the shift away from traditional landlines.
