Germany launches first full‑scale green hydrogen ecosystem in Emden

EWE began construction of H₂Coastlink 1, a 24‑km hydrogen pipeline linking Emden and Leer in north‑west Germany. The project connects a 320 MW electrolyser under construction in Emden with the region’s first large‑scale hydrogen off‑taker, completing the four‑stage value chain of generation, transport, storage and consumption in one industrial site – the country’s first such ecosystem.

At the same time, ThyssenKrupp Nucera is scaling alkaline water‑electrolysis projects to the multi‑hundred‑megawatt level for chemical, steel and energy customers across Europe and North America. The company focuses on modular electrolyser parks that can be integrated into hydrogen hubs and pipelines, aiming to meet industrial demand for green hydrogen as part of decarbonisation targets. Both initiatives underline growing market momentum and substantial investment in Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure.
