Germany launches first green‑hydrogen pipeline from Lingen to Marl
Renewable hydrogen produced by RWE’s electrolyser in Lingen, Lower Saxony, has been transported for the first time through a 120‑kilometre pipeline to the Evonik chemical park in Marl, North Rhine‑Westphalia. The delivery marks the initial operation of the GET H2 Nukleus core‑network, a project co‑financed by the states of Niedersachsen and North Rhine‑Westphalia under the EU IPCEI Hy2Infra programme.
RWE plans to run 200 MW of electrolyser capacity by the end of 2026 and expand to 300 MW in 2027. The hydrogen meets EU criteria for renewable, non‑biological fuel (RFNBO), allowing industrial users to obtain sustainability certificates and count the fuel toward CO₂‑reduction targets. Project leaders, including Niedersachsen’s economic minister Grant Hendrik Tonne, OGE CEO Thomas Hüwener and RWE Generation CEO Nikolaus Valerius, highlighted the milestone as a key step for Germany’s energy transition and the development of a national hydrogen market.
