Germany launches regional free outdoor fitness programs

Various regional health initiatives in Germany are launching free outdoor fitness programs to encourage physical activity and community wellness.

In the Castrop-Rauxel and Dortmund area, the KNAPPSCHAFT and Emschergenossenschaft have expanded their ‘Gesund an der Emscher!’ project. Starting September 11, free guided training sessions will be held every Friday at 5:00 PM at Hof Emscher-Auen for adults. Participants can use bodyweight exercises or equipment from a specialized ‘Sportbox’ available via a dedicated app.

In Oettingen, the Donau-Ries Health Office, Gesundheitsregionplus, and the Rieser Volkshochschule are hosting open movement sessions from mid-September to mid-October. Part of the Bavarian state program ‘Sport vor Ort,’ these sessions include activities like Qigong and are designed to be accessible to all fitness levels without registration. The initiative aims to promote long-term health and mental well-being by bringing exercise directly into public spaces.
