Germany launches seventh annual food waste reduction week
The seventh annual “Too Good for the Bin!” (Zu gut für die Tonne!) action week will take place in Germany from September 29 to October 6, 2026. Organized by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and various state governments, the initiative aims to promote more conscious food consumption and reduce household waste.
The campaign features over 180 activities across the country, ranging from cooking workshops and online seminars to information stands and market initiatives. This year’s motto, “Everything on the list” (Alles auf dem Zettel), emphasizes the importance of smart planning, such as maintaining an overview of existing pantry supplies and using shopping lists to prevent over-purchasing.
In the professional sector, businesses like the ANDERS Hotel Walsrode are utilizing the campaign's themes to evaluate their own processes. For hotel kitchens, reducing waste involves complex challenges beyond simple shopping lists, including predicting guest numbers and managing spontaneous restaurant visits to balance availability with food surplus prevention.
