Poland authorities warn of possible puma sighting

Authorities in northern Poland have issued a warning to residents in the Cechanów district following reports of a large predator, possibly a puma, roaming the area. The sighting was reported near the village of Osiek-Wolka, approximately 75 kilometers north of Warsaw.

A retired veterinarian and experienced hunter observed the animal using a thermal imaging device, describing it as a large cat with a long, curled tail, comparable in size to a young wild boar. Forest officials have since discovered paw prints near a pond that may belong to a large predator, though the species has not been definitively confirmed.

Local authorities are advising residents in Osiek-Wolka, Osiek-Aleksandrowo, Osiek Górny, and Stare Garnowo to avoid forested areas and to closely supervise children. Officials stated they do not intend to shoot the animal if found, but rather plan to sedate and safely relocate it. This follows a similar incident in July where a puma was successfully captured in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
