Germany: Majority oppose signs for Muslim Friday prayers

A survey conducted by the market research institute INSA-Consulere has revealed that a majority of Germans oppose placing signs at town entrances that advertise Muslim Friday prayers alongside Christian services. According to the results, commissioned by the IDEA news agency, 58 percent of respondents reject such signage, while 22 percent support it.

Opposition varies significantly across religious and demographic groups. Resistance is highest among Protestants (65 percent), Catholics (55 percent), and those with no religious affiliation (67 percent). In contrast, 68 percent of Muslims surveyed support the introduction of such signs.

Age and political affiliation also show distinct divides. A relative majority of 18- to 29-year-olds (46 percent) support the signs, whereas opposition dominates all older age groups. Politically, support is highest among Die Linke voters (43 percent) and Green Party supporters (41 percent), while opposition is strongest among AfD supporters (79 percent) and CDU/CSU supporters (61 percent).
