Germany manages water conservation and dam maintenance

In Germany, authorities are addressing water management and infrastructure maintenance issues. The Schweinfurt District Office has issued a call for citizens to practice water conservation due to ongoing drought conditions. While the water supply remains guaranteed, officials recommend avoiding unnecessary usage, such as hosing down driveways, and suggest watering gardens only during early morning or late evening hours to minimize evaporation.

In Brandenburg, the State Office for the Environment is utilizing low water levels at the Spremberg Dam to conduct plant control measures. Workers are using herbicide to combat invasive blackberry, willow, and poplar growth that threatens the dam's structural integrity. If the roots penetrate the underlying clay sealing layer, the dam could face temporary decommissioning. Previous attempts to control the vegetation through cutting, burning, or using hot water have proven ineffective.
