Germany marks Heat Action Day on June 11 with health protection advice

Germany will observe a nationwide Heat Action Day on 11 June to raise awareness of the health risks posed by extreme temperatures. The campaign, organized with AOK, highlights measures such as keeping indoor spaces cool, ventilating at night, using blinds during the day, wearing light clothing, applying high‑SPF sunscreen, and staying hydrated with two to three litres of water daily. AOK health expert Susanne Hasel stresses that many people underestimate heat‑related dangers, which can range from heat exhaustion to heatstroke. The AOK Clarimedis medical heat‑phone offers round‑the‑clock advice for insured individuals.

The initiative follows a 2025 Forsa survey for AOK indicating that about one‑third of the population finds rising heat and prolonged heatwaves concerning. Practical tips also include using fans for evaporative cooling, avoiding midday outdoor exposure, and opting for water‑rich foods such as melons and salads.
