Germany: Nearly half of citizens feel financially worse off than parents

A survey by the social lottery freiheit+ conducted among 1,000 people in Germany reveals that 49.1% of respondents believe they are in a worse financial position than their parents' generation. In contrast, 25.1% believe their situation is better.

Financial support within families has become a common occurrence. Approximately 21.2% of Germans provide financial assistance to relatives, while 15.8% receive help, and 8.1% experience both. Parents are the primary supporters, with nearly half of those providing aid helping their children. This assistance is largely used for essential living expenses, including food (42.4%), rent or housing (29.6%), and mobility (24.8%).
