Germany offers mediation in Congo-Rwanda conflict
Germany has offered to act as a mediator in the conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. During a meeting with President Félix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa, State Minister Serap Güler proposed supporting ongoing peace processes currently held in Washington and Doha.
In addition to diplomatic mediation, Güler announced an additional million euros to assist in the disarmament and reintegration of armed groups in eastern Congo. The German government’s engagement includes economic cooperation, Ebola relief efforts, and the reopening of the Goethe-Institut in Kinshasa.
Güler’s visit to Kinshasa concluded a regional tour that included Rwanda and Burundi, where she met with heads of state to discuss the long-standing conflict in the Great Lakes region.
