Germany offers up to €2,000 subsidies for apartment building EV charging stations

The German federal government has launched the "Laden im Mehrparteienhaus" funding programme, allowing owners’ associations (WEGs) in multi‑unit residential buildings to apply for subsidies to install electric‑vehicle charging infrastructure. Applications can be submitted until 10 November 2026, with funds allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis.

The subsidy covers pre‑wiring, charging points, grid connection and related construction. Grants range from €1,300 per parking space without a charger, €1,500 for a space with a charger, up to €2,000 for bidirectional (vehicle‑to‑grid) charging. At least 20 % of a building’s parking spaces, but no fewer than six, must be pre‑wired to qualify. The programme aims to expand private charging options for residents of apartment blocks.

The funding details were explained by Burkhard Touché of the Verband Privater Bauherren (VPB), who noted that the amount is fixed per space and that the construction work must not have started before the application is approved.
