Germany outlines 2026 vocational school start and new apprentice obligations
The Catholic Vocational School in Mainz will begin the 2026/27 school year on Monday, 10 August 2026, with an introductory week that has no regular lessons. A parent‑information evening for several programmes is scheduled for 3 September 2026 at 18:30, and travel‑cost reimbursements must be applied for online via the city of Mainz.
The Federal Employment Agency reported roughly 400 000 apprenticeship applicants and about 409 000 advertised positions between October 2025 and June 2026. New trainees are required to open a personal bank account, obtain a tax number and become subject to social insurance. From a gross monthly wage of €1 200, contributions total €269.40 (€105 health, €21.60 care, €111.60 pension, €31.20 unemployment). Child benefit (Kindergeld) remains payable until the apprentice turns 25, provided the training continues.
