Deutsche Rentenversicherung to issue orphan's pension verification letters in September

The Deutsche Rentenversicherung (DRV) will issue verification letters to recipients of orphan's pensions (Waisenrente) this September. These letters are intended to confirm whether the requirements for continued payment are still met.

While orphan's pensions are generally paid until age 18, they can be extended up to age 27 for individuals engaged in school, university, vocational training, or voluntary social/ecological services. Recipients must respond to these notices by providing proof of their current status, such as enrollment certificates, apprenticeship contracts, or school reports.

Failure to provide the requested documentation or respond to the letters may result in the suspension of pension payments.

Separately, the Consumer Center NRW has advised health insurance members to monitor their individual supplementary contributions (Zusatzbeitrag) more closely, as insurance providers are no longer required to inform members in writing about increases to these specific rates.
