Germany plans new protections for medical staff against violence

Germany’s new Federal Health Minister, Carsten Linnemann, has announced plans to improve protections for doctors and medical staff against violence and threats in clinics and practices. A draft law from the Federal Ministry of Justice aims to address these safety concerns, with the ministry targeting a legislative decision within this year.

The Ärztekammer Brandenburg has welcomed the move, describing it as an “important signal.” This initiative follows a cabinet reshuffle announced by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who appointed Linnemann to the role, describing him as “steadfast and reform-oriented.”
