Germany pledges support for UK potential EU re-entry
Germany has expressed its willingness to act as a partner to assist the United Kingdom should it decide to rejoin the European Union. German Ambassador to the UK, Susanne Bauman, stated that Berlin would support the establishment of ambitious new relations, noting that the UK is an integral part of Europe’s history and future.
This diplomatic stance follows comments from UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who suggested that a second Brexit referendum could be held following consultations regarding a new long-term relationship with the EU. While EU leaders have called for the reversal of Brexit, the move has faced domestic opposition. Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, warned that a second referendum could deeply divide the country.
Economists have also raised concerns regarding the potential for renewed investment stagnation due to the uncertainty surrounding a possible reversal of Brexit. Experts noted that businesses, particularly in high-tech sectors like artificial intelligence and life sciences, may face complications regarding existing trade agreements and future regulations. Any re-entry process would require the UK to undergo the standard accession procedures required of all potential member states.
