Germany postpones decision on Hamburg-Hannover railway line
The German black-red coalition has postponed a decision regarding the construction of a new railway line between Hamburg and Hannover. The postponement follows requests from the Union and SPD parties.
Originally, the Bundestag's transport committee was scheduled to discuss the project this Wednesday, with a full Bundestag session planned for Thursday. The project, which involves building a new line rather than expanding existing ones, remains controversial in Lower Saxony.
Matthias Gastel, a transport politician for the Green Party, criticized the delay. He argued that the Hamburg-Hannover line is a critical project, noting that current bottlenecks negatively impact rail traffic across Germany and hinder the shift of freight from road to rail.
