Germany promotes sexual health awareness and STI testing

In observance of World Sexual Health Day on September 4, 2026, health organizations in Germany are emphasizing the importance of counseling and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The German STI Society (DSTIG), in collaboration with the German Dermatological Society, has issued communications to encourage dialogue between patients and medical professionals, noting that most STIs are highly treatable if detected early.

In the Hannover region, local authorities are promoting confidential, anonymous, and free counseling services regarding HIV and other STIs. To increase accessibility, the regional counseling center is extending its opening hours to include evenings. Additionally, outreach programs are being conducted at various locations, including monthly sessions at local saunas to reach diverse groups. These services also include health counseling in accordance with the Prostitutes Protection Act.
