Germany protests social welfare cuts and AfD party congress

A coalition of local groups in Dortmund organized a rally to oppose a series of social‑policy cutbacks. Demonstrators condemned proposed reductions such as the abolition of the eight‑hour workday, reforms to health care, tighter sanctions on recipients of the new basic income, a shift to a minimal pension scheme, cuts to social housing and housing allowances, and demanded the reinstatement of a wealth tax and protection of social spending while military spending rises.

Climate activist Luisa Neubauer and the campaigning organization Campact announced plans to join sit‑in blockades at the AfD's federal party conference in Erfurt. They argue the party is “demonstrably unconstitutional” and could soon assume governmental responsibility in Saxony‑Anhalt. The groups are calling on a broad democratic middle to participate, alongside support from the Left Party and several left‑wing Bundestag members.
