Germany hit by transport disruptions as Deutsche Bahn radio failure and Rüsselsheim power cut strand commuters

A nationwide failure of Deutsche Bahn’s digital radio system caused a total halt to passenger, regional and freight train services across Germany, leaving hundreds of thousands of travelers stranded. Among those affected was RTL moderator Mareile Höppner, who was forced to spend several hours in Duisburg awaiting the resumption of service. The outage began late at night and trains only began to run again after about half a day.

In a separate incident, large‑scale power outages struck the city of Rüsselsheim late on the night of 25‑26 June 2026. The blackout, which began with a brief flicker during a World Cup match, escalated after midnight and left most households without electricity until the following morning, except for a few remaining outages in the Haßloch district. City‑works suspect a technical problem linked to high temperatures, ruling out sabotage.

Both incidents disrupted daily life for residents and commuters, highlighting vulnerabilities in Germany’s transport and energy infrastructure.
