Germany recalls Grander Katenschinken ham over Listeria risk

Grander Katenschinken GmbH has issued a recall of its diced Katenschinken ham after laboratory tests identified Listeria bacteria in the product. The affected batches, marked with lot numbers 0826 and best‑before dates in early August 2026, were sold in Hamburg and Schleswig‑Holstein, notably in REWE stores.

Listeria can cause mild flu‑like symptoms in healthy adults but may lead to severe listeriosis in people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, the elderly, and newborns. Complications can include meningitis, blood infections, and in some cases death. Consumers are advised to discard the ham immediately, return it to the point of purchase for a full refund, and contact the company’s customer service for assistance.

The recall follows a recent meat‑product recall in Germany after metal fragments were found in a different product, highlighting ongoing food‑safety vigilance.
