Germany recalls olive oil and frozen berries over safety risks

German authorities have issued nationwide recalls for two food products due to health concerns. The Ghorban brand olive oil, sold in 750‑ml cans at Rewe, Edeka and other retailers, is being withdrawn after internal quality checks revealed a concentration of MCPD‑fatty acid esters at 2.386 µg/kg, exceeding the legal limit of 1.950 µg/kg. The affected batch (LOT 250471, best‑before 20 Feb 2027) may pose a health risk, and consumers are advised not to use the oil and to return it for a full refund without a receipt.

Separately, the supermarket chain Globus has recalled a frozen mixed‑berry product after testing detected hepatitis‑causing pathogens. Consumption of the berries is strongly discouraged, and customers are asked to return the product to the store where it was purchased.

Both recalls are coordinated by German consumer‑protection agencies and aim to prevent potential illness from contaminated food items.
