Germany records negative net migration with Poland and Eastern Europe

Germany recorded a negative net migration balance with Central and Eastern European countries in 2025. According to analysis by the Polish Economic Institute and German statistical data, 37,000 more people left Germany from the nine countries in the region than arrived.

Poland experienced the most significant shift, with a net migration balance of -13,600 people. This represents a sharp decline from 2023, when the balance with Poland was +17,000. Other countries contributing to Germany's negative balance with the region included Bulgaria (-13,000), Croatia (-9,300), and Romania (-2,400).

While migration from the region declined, Germany saw net inflows from other nations, most notably Ukraine (+95,000), India (+38,000), Syria (+26,000), Turkey (+24,000), and Afghanistan (+19,000). The overall net migration to Germany in 2025 was 332,000, a 35 percent decrease from 2024.
