Germany: Red police stickers on vehicles signal high fines

In Germany, drivers who find a round, red sticker on their windshield must act quickly to avoid significant financial penalties. This sticker, known as the ‘Red Point,’ is placed by police on vehicles that are not roadworthy or are illegally parked on public spaces.

If the owner fails to remove the vehicle within the specified timeframe, the police may tow, auction, or scrap the vehicle. The owner is responsible for all resulting costs, including processing fees, towing fees, and storage fees. In cases where the auction value does not cover the total expenses, the vehicle owner can be held liable for the remaining balance, with potential fines reaching up to 100,000 euros.
