Germany: Renewable energy switch could save households €12,000
A new analysis by clean-tech company 1KOMMA5° suggests that German households could save approximately €12,451 over 25 years by transitioning from gas heating to a renewable energy system.
The study compared a €10,000 new gas heating system against a €60,000 package comprising solar panels, battery storage, a heat pump, and an intelligent energy management system. While the initial acquisition cost for the renewable setup is higher, the total cost over 25 years is estimated at €104,542—factoring in a 5.99% interest rate and a €16,500 government subsidy. In contrast, a gas-based system is projected to cost €116,993 over the same period due to rising gas prices.
Jannik Schall, co-founder of 1KOMMA5°, advises homeowners not to be deterred by high upfront costs. He notes that financing the transition through monthly installments can provide predictable costs and energy independence. Additionally, integrating an intelligent energy management system can potentially reduce monthly electricity bills by up to €42 by optimizing when solar energy is used, stored, or sold back to the grid.
