Alexander Dobrindt faces criminal complaint and migration policy debates

Berlin politician Elif Eralp and her state association have filed a criminal complaint against Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt. The legal action follows a ZDF broadcast of ‘Maybrit Illner,’ where a moderator’s slip of the tongue regarding Eralp’s status was met with Dobrindt’s response, ‘Na doch’ (Yes, indeed). Lawyer Jasper Prigge argues the comments constitute defamation and insult, potentially damaging Eralp’s political integrity and the government formation process in Berlin.

Separately, Interior Minister Dobrindt is advocating for significant changes to European migration management. During a meeting in Munich, he proposed expanding the mandate of Frontex to include a rapid intervention force capable of deploying within 24 hours to assist member states during sudden migration surges. He also called for increased cooperation regarding the establishment of return hubs in third countries to expedite deportation processes.

Regarding domestic asylum figures, Dobrindt attributed a decline in applications to the government’s tightened migration policies. Data from the Interior Ministry shows 3,345 asylum applications were recorded in September, marking a significant decrease compared to previous years.
