Germany reports on youth employment and Ukrainian soldier training departures

Reports regarding Ukrainian personnel in Germany highlight two distinct social and military issues. In terms of youth employment, data from the Federal Statistical Office shows that nearly 10% of young people aged 20-24 in Germany are classified as NEET (not in education, employment, or training), an increase from 8.8% in 2022. This figure remains lower than the European Union average of 12.9%.

Separately, investigations into military training have surfaced claims regarding Ukrainian soldiers. While social media posts have suggested hundreds of soldiers are deserting directly from training grounds in Germany, official figures are more limited. The Ministry of the Interior in Saxony-Anhalt has confirmed approximately 80 cases of Ukrainian military personnel leaving training, but comprehensive national statistics for all of Germany have not yet been released by the federal government.
