Germany reports rise in queer hate attacks after deadly Berlin CSD incident

A deadly attack during Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade in the Tiergarten on Saturday night left one woman dead and 29 people injured. Queer community leaders expressed shock but urged calm, recalling earlier anti‑LGBT assaults in Germany.

In a separate incident in Asperg, Baden‑Württemberg, a 23‑year‑old trans man and his 21‑year‑old partner were lightly injured after a man assaulted them at a bus stop. Police are searching for a suspect described as about 20 years old, 1.75 m tall, wearing a light‑gray sweater and jogging trousers.

Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) reports a near‑tenfold rise in queer‑phobic crimes since 2010, averaging almost six cases per day in 2025. The two attacks highlight growing concerns over LGBT safety nationwide.
