Germany schedules nationwide war day on 10 September 2026

Germany will hold its annual nationwide war day on Thursday, 10 September 2026. At 11:00 a.m. sirens will sound across the country and warning texts will be sent to mobile phones. The alert will be cleared at 11:45 a.m. with a continuous tone.

The test uses multiple channels: municipal sirens, the NINA and Katwarn warning apps, the Cell Broadcast system, and broadcasts on radio and television. Since 2023 the alerts are triggered centrally from the state government’s situation centre via the Modular Warning System (MoWaS). Participation is voluntary, so some municipalities may not activate all channels.

The siren signals consist of three tones that indicate a warning, a specific hazard (e.g., flood, large fire, bomb disposal, severe weather, chemical accident) and the subsequent all‑clear. The exercise aims to verify that the population receives timely information and knows how to respond in an emergency.
