Germany secures major offshore wind contracts to boost renewable capacity

German industrial firm Siemens Energy and a consortium led by Belgian shipbuilder Smulders have won a multi‑billion‑euro contract to build offshore converter stations for the nation’s expanding wind farms. The project will create about 500 specialised jobs in northern Germany and is a key element of the country’s “Energiewende”, helping to integrate up to 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.

In a separate deal, Skyborn Renewables and Amazon have signed a 600 MW power‑purchase agreement for the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The farm, slated to host 63 turbines with a total capacity of 976.5 MW, represents a €3 billion investment and is expected to power more than one‑million German households. Construction is planned for summer 2026 with commissioning by the end of 2028, further supporting Germany’s renewable energy targets and regional job creation.
