Germany disburses over 50 million € in electric‑car purchase subsidies, Tesla leads
The German government’s new purchase‑grant programme for electric vehicles has paid out €53.9 million by 30 June, part of a budget that can reach up to €3 billion. The subsidy, up to €6 000 per vehicle and tied to income and family size, applies to new registrations from 1 January 2026. According to the Federal Environment Ministry, the most funded brand is Tesla, with 2 086 approved applications, followed by Skoda (1 197) and Renault (784). At the group level, Volkswagen leads with 2 720 vehicles across its Audi, Cupra/Seat, Porsche, Skoda and VW marques, while Stellantis ranks second with 2 278 vehicles. The programme aims to support up to 800 000 vehicles, but the ministry stresses that the early figures are a snapshot and cannot predict long‑term distribution. The “schwarz‑red” coalition emphasizes the short‑term nature of the data and the impact of ongoing model introductions on the grant uptake.
