Germany shows high wealth inequality according to ECB data

New data from the European Central Bank (ECB) reveals significant wealth inequality within German households. While Germany is considered a major economic power in the EU, its private wealth distribution shows a stark discrepancy between average and median figures.

The average net wealth of a German household is approximately 413,000 euros, ranking the country sixth in the Eurozone. However, the median wealth—the midpoint that divides the population into two equal halves—is significantly lower at around 106,000 euros.

This gap indicates high wealth concentration. The top ten percent of households hold more than half of the total wealth, while the bottom half of the population possesses only about two percent. According to Deutsche Bundesbank analyses, the wealth held by the top tier is largely driven by real estate and business assets.
