Germany strengthens disaster preparedness with new emergency vehicles
Germany is expanding its disaster preparedness and civil protection capabilities through new investments in specialized emergency vehicles.
In the Prignitz region, the German Red Cross (DRK) in Pritzwalk will receive a new crew transport vehicle for civil protection (MTW FüDekon V) based on an Iveco Daily 4x4. The vehicle, funded by the federal government via the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), is scheduled to be collected in Bonn on September 29. This follows previous federal support for fire stations and the DRK in the district.
Separately, the state of Baden-Württemberg is investing over four million euros to strengthen wildfire combatting efforts. Deputy Minister-President and Interior Minister Manuel Hagel handed over six new off-road tank firefighting vehicles (TLF-W) to fire departments in Gärtringen, Freiburg, Reutlingen, and other locations. These vehicles are intended to combat extreme vegetation fires caused by longer dry periods and will also serve as the operational core of a European deployment module to support large-scale forest fires across Europe.
