Germany survey: Many rely on family for daily living costs
A representative survey by the social lottery freiheit+ reveals that many people in Germany feel financially worse off than their parents. Approximately 49.1 percent of respondents believe their current financial situation is inferior to that of the previous generation, while 25 percent view it as better.
Financial support within families has become increasingly significant. The study shows that 21.2 percent of respondents provide financial assistance to relatives, while 15.8 percent receive help themselves. An additional 8.1 percent participate in both giving and receiving support. The most common flow of funds is from parents to children, with nearly half of those providing support helping their offspring.
Recipients primarily use these funds for essential daily expenses. Specifically, 42.4 percent use the money for food, 29.6 percent for rent or housing costs, and 24.8 percent for mobility. Other mentioned uses include clothing, insurance, debt repayment, and expenses related to children.
