Germany: Survey reveals low awareness of children's rights support
A YouGov survey commissioned by ARAG reveals a significant knowledge gap in Germany regarding children's rights. Only one in five adults knows exactly whom to contact if a child's rights are violated or if a child requires protection and support.
This lack of information has practical consequences, as individuals who are unsure of the correct procedures may fail to act. The survey also indicates that nearly half of respondents have personally experienced or observed instances where children's rights were not sufficiently respected in daily life.
Experts suggest that adults should remain vigilant if children are being permanently excluded, denied necessary development, experiencing violence, or unable to express their opinions. While individuals do not need to personally judge whether child welfare is at risk, they are encouraged to report concerns to specialized services. Primary contact points include local youth welfare offices (Jugendamt), parenting and family counseling centers, and school psychological services.
