Germany survey shows €3,000 net monthly needed for workers’ happiness

A Forsa poll commissioned by the online job platform kununu revealed that German employees consider a net monthly income of about €3,000 sufficient for happiness at work. Roughly two‑thirds of respondents earning at least this amount described themselves as happy, while satisfaction drops sharply for those earning below €2,000.

The survey also identified a higher aspirational target of around €6,000 net per month for peak happiness, a figure that exceeds the average German salary of €3,000 net monthly reported by the Federal Statistical Office for 2025. Researchers note that beyond a certain income level, additional earnings have diminishing effects on well‑being, shifting concerns toward relative comparison rather than absolute financial security.
