Germany tackles rising obesity with school nutrition programs and lifestyle guidance

A German health study found that 53.5% of adults are overweight and that one‑in‑two diets fail, prompting the German Nutrition Society to recommend a three‑pillar approach—balanced diet, adequate sleep, stress management and regular activity—as a sustainable alternative to crash diets.

Separately, officials warn that nearly one‑sixth of German children are obese and 15% are overweight. Experts are calling for stronger health education in schools, using school cafeterias as venues for nutrition teaching, healthier meal standards, and a more inviting dining environment to encourage healthier eating habits among students.
